Edna G. Olds Academy has ‘very highest expectations for all pupils’

Staff and pupils at Edna G. Olds Academy in Lenton are celebrating following a glowing Ofsted inspection report.

The school – which is part of L.E.A.D. Academy Trust – received resounding praise from inspectors in its latest report. Inspectors confirmed that the academy has maintained the high standards identified at its previous inspection where they were deemed to be ‘Outstanding’ across the board.

Edna G. Olds Academy also has the highest pupil attainment score in maths amongst primary schools in Nottingham, further demonstrating the strength of academic provision at the academy.

The inspection report outlines how pupils at Edna G. Olds Academy are ‘proud to attend this warm and extremely welcoming school’. Inspectors described how the ‘highly ambitious curriculum’ is ‘designed with expert precision’, delivered by teachers with ‘excellent subject knowledge’.

Other key highlights from the report include:

  • Pupils ‘strive’ to meet the school’s high expectations; they are ‘resilient and produce work of excellent quality right across the curriculum’.
  • Behaviour at the school is ‘exemplary’. Inspectors described how ‘no learning time is wasted’, and around the school, pupils are ‘polite, highly respectful and friendly’.
  • The culture at Edna G. Olds Academy ‘is underpinned by mutual respect’. Pupils told the inspector “everybody is equal and everybody has a voice”.
  • Reading and literacy is ‘at the heart of the curriculum’, and any pupils who fall behind in learning how to read are ‘very well supported to catch up quickly’.
  • The school ‘quickly and accurately’ identifies when pupils have special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). Information about these pupils’ needs is ‘shared with well-trained staff who adapt learning activities and provide support’.
  • In the early years, the ‘rich learning environment is designed to excite children’s curiosity’. Staff ‘prioritise getting to know the children very well’.
  • Edna G. Olds Academy prepares pupils for their lives in modern Britain ‘exceptionally well’.
  • Pupils ‘value the wide variety of extra-curricular activities on offer at the school’, including sports and arts and crafts clubs. Weekly yoga sessions ‘promote mindfulness and support pupils’ well-being’.
  • Staff are ‘proud’ to be part of Edna G. Olds Academy. They ‘appreciate the way that the school supports them to manage their workload and develop their professional expertise’.
  • The school is led ‘exceptionally well’. School leaders are ‘very well supported’ by L.E.A.D. Academy Trust and the governing body. Together, they ‘strive to ensure that the curriculum and the wider provision promote the very best outcomes for all pupils’.
